The principal mountain in the Veronese area, Mount Baldo, which looms over the waters of Lake Garda is easily accessible from Garda (via Costermano) and from Torri del Benaco (via Albisano).

At the foot of the Baldo, occupying a splendid panoramic position 693metres above sea level, is the village of San Zeno di Montagna. The villages owes its name to the Montagne family whose residence dating back to the 1400s with gothic windows, interesting frescos and portico with loggia is open to visitors.

From the hamlet of Prada, visitors may walk or take the chairlift up to the refuges of Fiore del Baldo, Chierego and Telegrafo which serve as departure points for the last climb up to the top of the Altissimo (m. 2070). The top of Mount Baldo may also be reached via the cable car link from Malcesine which is open all year round.

The flora of Monte Baldo, defined by ancient herbalists as Hortus Europae (Garden of Europe) is exceptional. Due to the favourable microclimate, some unique botanical species grow here including some varieties of orchid.

At the beginning of November, the traditional fair of chestnuts in the village of San Zeno di Montagne promotes the delicious fruits of this land. Chestnuts which are well used in the cuisine of the area, couple well with the new wine. Other typical products of the area are mushrooms, nuts, honey and cheese.
